Landscape: Our farm is situated by the river Karasjohka. A few hundred metres away from Your entering point wildlife begins: You can i.e.observe trails from moose, reindeer, hares and fox or - if You are really silent You might see the animals themselves!.
You sit nice and comfortably on a reindeerhide in a dogsled as we pass pinewood trees and birchwoods.
After an easy descent some of the trips travel along the river of Karasjohka - the artery - the nerve of Karasjok - the very reason why the township of Karasjok is situated where it is.
We enter the kingdom of the moose where You might see trails of moose or even the king himself!
Some of the trips have climbs up to the mountain plateau: At the mountain plateau a fascinating landscape appears - Your view is endless. Strong winds have shaped the vegetation: A barren white view!

Accommodation Safari lavvu and cabins: On our husky safaris you spend some nights in shared lavvu close to the main lavvu. Naturally, you will have access to all the Lavvu hotel’s facilities (sauna). The lavvu and sauna and provides the perfect atmosphere to bond with your fellow adventurers before setting off into the wilderness on your safari. You will eat all your meals in the main lavvu.
Wilderness cabins: On our wilderness safaris you will spend some nights in a wilderness cabin or cabins. Some guests prefer staying in tents; the most nature-like way. Generally speaking the cabins are rather basic (no running water and very simple electric facilities) but comfortable and cosy, especially once dinner is cooking over the open fire. The cabins are usually so remote that there is little or no light pollution, creating the best possible chance of seeing the Aurora Borealis.
When going on safari for several days You will be taught how to handle your team and the sled. We depart into one of Europe's few remaining wilderness areas. The huskies will pull your sled through the beautiful winter scenery in Karasjok; the very capitol of the Norwegian sami people. You will pass through forests, across fells and over frozen lakes and rivers covering up to 40km per day. Only the “swish” of the sled's runners breaking through the snow will disturb the perfect silence and you very quickly realise that you have well and truly left behind the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Overnight stays are in simple but cosy wilderness cabins with no showers or indoor WC. Some of the cabins have their own electric power plants. However, you can relax in some style while dinner is cooking on an open fire and you may also have a sauna (must be booked ahead). Everybody takes care of their own dogs. Breakfasts and dinners are prepared together. Lunches are some times eaten by open fires on the trail. This far north there is a great chance of seeing the Aurora Borealis and with no light pollution whatsoever the night time sky may provide a picture show that will remain imprinted in your mind forever. Sometimes we have to drag people back into the cabins!
With a team of husky dogs you will trek through the old growth forest, frozen lakes and swamps enjoying the peaceful tranquillity of nature and the exciting experience of dog sledding. The landscape is favoured by wild animals like bear and elk(moose) . Our safari trail crosses these areas, and we also enter the reindeer husbandry area. The husky safari in this area allows you to discover the sights and sounds of northern winter, the dry cold of the snowy landscape of subtle colours and totally black sky with thousands of stars and with good luck, Northern Lights. You are driving a personal dog sledge pulled by a team of four or five Siberian or Alaskan huskies. Our local sled dog guide will be showing the way. All trips are self-supported, and no snowmachine transport gear and supplies. We carry what we need so please travel light. Some places we have depots of dogfood and wood. Daily distances vary from 20 to 45 km. A general level of fitness will help you get the most out of this safari. Our guide will teach you how to drive the sledge and deal with your dogs. You and your dogs must work as a team. You will learn to harness the dogs and take care of them. After a day full of experiences it is nice to relax in a cosy and comfortable wilderness lodge having a sauna (must be ordered in advance-local fee)and dinner with traditional Sami dishes. The wilderness lodges were built for people travelling the ecological way in old days. All the accommodation has good facilities although it is wilderness style. On our tours you’ll mush a team of our friendly Siberian - and Alaskan Huskies along beautiful wilderness trails. We travel from lodge to lodge which means you will enjoy new scenery every day. Each evening you’ll enjoy a new cozy wilderness lodge with great Sami meals. You’ll be accompanied by our expert guides who provide complete dogsled training, share stories and tales about the sami culture, winter mushing, fishing, wildlife, northern lights, and more. Our sledges are handmade at ”Teigmo Helsegård ” by Amund Hilmar and Amund Peder, your lead musher, who knows what is the best to use on our mountain tours. Our experience is beneficial on all our tours. Dogs at Adventure Teigmo Husky are very sociable and kind. They love to be petted almost as much as they like you to put on their harnesses and pull you wherever you wish on your dogsledding holiday... may that be challenging stormy weather... through cold winter days... while northern light dance for you... warm and beautiful sunny days when the mountain is kind. Small and large groups or customized individual tour...
On our dogsled safari we work with small groups, which mean more dogs for your team and more personal service. We offer complete free clothing and boots. You can be sure you’ll stay warm on your dogsled holiday. We’re the experts on cold weather comfort. All the nature you can imagine... dense forests... proud mountain birch... wide stretched mires... bare white mountains with deep valleys... pure clean lakes with trout’s and char and beautiful social dogs...

Real sami establishment run by samis:
Our sami ancestors have been here and lived from what they could collect, hunt, fish and trap since the beginning of history: We still can see their hunting pits where they trapped moose and reindeer: The farm was established in the midst of this area by Kreitta Andde and Jovnna Maret in 1932. The norwegian government forced upon us a norwegian name so that our family could buy land: Thereby the name "Teigmo". The sami owner Kreitta Andde Ammun Ammun Peder ( in norwegian: Amund Peder Teigmo) is a direct descendant from the samis that used the land around mt Ailigasvarri, mt Dilljavarri, mt Iskuras and the Karasjohka river. He started as a touristguide in 1987.
·
Our ancestors, roots and traditions stands for our quality. Adventure Teigmo Husky is based upon our sami cultural heritage and geographical knowledge inherited from our parents and their stories that has never been written down.
· Our knowledge about sami traditional medicine is part of the familiys history; One of our ancestors was accused of having a shamans drum and some recent relatives was believed to have the ability to heal other people.
- · In our days the owner Kreitta Andde Ammun Ammun Peder practice western medicine as a specialist in general practice and family medicine. This academic education combined with traditional inheritage gives a thrilling link from the past and into the present. Plants, herbs and natural pure products combined with physical activity and culture gives a new meaning to the topic health.
- · The knowledge we share has been broght from father to son and from mother to daughter through centuries. Some of it was starting to be forgotten but we try to keep the traditions alive. This information you cannot get in school or university: No academic degree can match the knowledge built up by samis through the centuries.
- · We possess knowledge built up by our own family through the ages in addition to being candidatus medicinae, specialist in general practice and family medicine.
Through our inheritage we are obligated to keep our traditions and culture alive as we develop the sami culture.
We are very proud of our traditions and our land and we want it to be used with caution - not abused.
In sami culture we have a saying that goes: " If you are in a hurry you shuld have started walking yesterday." The culture is affected by this: You cannot rush a heard to be present at a given time. You might have to use some extra time. If on a hunt you cannot expect the game to be waiting for you. You have to be waiting for it. We recommend that you turn off your cellulars (mobile phones) and that you leave your wristwatches at home when entering Adventure Teigmo Helsegård. Although we usually start our tours precise at the time agreed upon you might experience slight shifts in timetables due to the factors mentioned above or due to weather and other external factors.
